Grade II Building to Become Further Education College in Leeds.

Lighthouse Futures Trust, a Leeds-based education charity, will be establishing their new further education facility at Moorfield House on Alma Road in Headingly. The charity provided supported internships to young people aged 18–30, with a learning disability or autism. Only 16% of young people with learning difficulties move into employment compared to 70% that want to work.

Moorfield House is a Grade II listed building and the property’s owner, Illuminating investments, have agreed to let 9000 sq ft to the charity. The new facility will provide further education to over 100 students in the future with facilities such as hotel and restaurant hubs, office suites and IT and media suites.

The Lighthouse Futures Trust have been working with some of Yorkshire’s biggest employers such as Yorkshire Water, Johnson & Johnson, KPMG, John Lewis and Leeds City Council to provide a 12-month supported internship.

Moorfield House is a grade II listed building which means it is of special architectural or historic interest. 92% of all listed buildings are grade II listed. When a building is listed there are controls that dictate what changes can be made to the inside and outside of a building.

Grade I buildings are the most protected followed by grade II* and then grade II. It is important to carry out a building survey with a building surveyor that understands listed buildings and their unique needs.
